With all the music out there that's been held back from the public by the radio stations, and with all the closures of smooth jazz radio stations, it means we'll have to start searching for music, listening to it, and then make our own decisions -- this is time consuming.

Dio you know of any sites where someone takes it upon themself to listen to all kinds of new contemporary jazz, and then make recommendations?

I could see a Siskel and Ebert style site, where a couple musicologists listen to the Cd's a few times, and then give their thumbs up and thumbs down rating....it's helped me through the movie scene when Siskel and Ebert did it a few years ago :)

Absoultely,

You can visit smoothsoul.net.

This is one of the best radio stations you never heard of!

We're trying to change that by letting people know where we are.

We do a top 10 countdown every Friday at 12 noon, Eastern. We also review new releases on the website, as well as new artists we should be on the lookout for. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Hi my name is Sheryl-the-Puryl. I'm the owner of the smoothest internet jazz radio station that's taking over the nation WSAJ Radio. I enjoy the liberty of listening to all new and seasoned artist's music. My mission is to connect artist's new music to the listeners via the internet. Once the listeners tune into the station link www.live365.com/stations/307792?play they will have the opportunity to listen, hear the music, and rate whether they like it or not by clicking on thumbs up or down at the end of the track currently playing. I have also started a blog with a weekly updated list of some of the new music that airplays on the station where members can click on and listen to the new music also also share their oppinions, likes or dislikes of the music on smooth jazz space under the heading of "The Smooth Grooves are Around in Your Town ". Aint no party like a smooth jazz party cause a smooth jazz party don't stop. Check it out!

Hi Kenia. I would love to listen to some of your tracks for airplay consideration. I tried visiting your website to do that but unsuccessful in locating any tracks. You're welcome to send me a couple of your tracks to my email address msestl_2000@yahoo.com. I will listen and upload your music to the station. Thanks for considering WSAJ Radio your smooth take off connection into the air.

I've been listening to a lot of pandora.com and I'm hearing artists and music I've never heard before and I love it. I got to the point where I can't stand the commercials because of the steering and programming that's going on. I was looking for commercial-free jazz and found it, with surprising new artists and music (to me). I don't know whose making recommendations, especially because everyone's taste is different, but I'll look around. I definitely do recommend pandora.com for great contemporary jazz. We should support the sponsors that bring the station as well. We can check into how we can get our music played on the station.

I agree, I think internet radio is the best way to discover music you like--not necessarily recommendations from people. There's so much music in the genre and people have different tastes. I found so many songs/artists I like through Pandora. There's also AOL Radio, Yahoo Radio, smoothjazz.com, smoothlounge.com, play.it, iTunes radio stations, sky.fm smooth jazz and even still links to smooth jazz stations all across the nation online. And people here are running their own stations; I made my own on play.it called Sensational Sounds. You can set your station on play.it to play songs/artists similar to ones you selected for your station, and this allows for discovery. If you make your station on Yahoo Radio, it does the same thing.

Another thing about iTunes is if you download that program, it has a feature called Genius that lets you click on a song in your iTunes Library (can be any song on your computer, even if you didn't get it from iTunes) and it makes recommendations to the right-hand side of iTunes. I have used this and found many songs I like this way.

Hello,

I am "Triple J" host of Jamz-Fussion ( The Jazzy Spot ) on Ozcat Radio { www.ozcatradio.com} Ozcat pushes the independent artist first, we also play the major heavyweight's too. But our primary mission id to indie artist. So for my show Tuesday and Sundays I listen to the songs of the Cd, I received and air them on the shows. I do interviews and a segment called CD spotlight where we get one on one with the music artist and their music. If anyone wants to get in touch with me on their jazz music my e-mail is Triplejfussion@gmail.com, you can also drop a line here. I also do a show where i play nothing but indie jazz artist for the entire show getting a real response on that one also. So I appreciate your question here, and if you like the jazz smooth and new with the flavored mix check out Jamz-Fussion
on Ozcat Radio, { The Jazzy spot} where we keep it jazz.

There are a few sites: Smoothjazz.com, Contemporaryjazz.com, CDnow.com, and you can ask me for any recommendations and I can tell you of some artists on independent labels to listen too. Just tell me what your interests are (sax, keyboards, groups) and I will tell you what I know.
