Thanks for the request, Deatrice. Great you like the music. Deen Dodge also has a site here on this network. He's a terrific musician from Duluth and comes from a very talented musical family. You can hear his mom Ruth from Duluth on sax and his also famous and multitalented sister Marissa Dodge on background vocals.
A life long lover of Jazz music from the beautiful coastal waters of North Carolina. Deatrice Suggs loves to travel and sing. She has been singing since before she can remember whether it was entertaining relatives in the middle of the living room floor or performing in school musicals. Extending from a family of musicians, her father played acoustic guitar and her grandmother played piano, so it’s no wonder that Deatrice began playing the clarinet at the tender age of eight. According to her father at the time, the clarinet was too boring for her taste, so she began piano lessons under the instruction of Denise Dupree. It didn’t take Deatrice long to realized that her passion was singing, so she then began voice lesson from vocal instructor, Sue Ann Culp (AP Theatrical Productions). While in high school, she participated in Honors Chorus and many state solo competitions where she received three Superior ratings and two Excellent ratings. In 1998, she began singing with Eastern Bull Drum, a traditional intertribal Native American Drum based in Greenville , North Carolina . Since her own ethnic mix is Native American and African American, she had no problems adapting from her custom style of singing. Eastern Bull performs at festivals, civic organizations, adult care centers, state and federal correction centers and pow-wows throughout North Carolina , South Carolina , Florida , Virginia , West Virginia , Maryland, and Ohio with hopes to spread their wings to California . Eastern Bull recorded “Pow-Wow Voices” featuring John Blackfeather in 1998 and released "Eastern Bull Live & Kickin" in March 2000. The drum released "Songs of the Circle" in July 2007.
