I was listening to some early smoothjazz recordings this weekend.when artists pass on, their fans and the music do suffer.In the case of Art Porter and George Howard this is definitely true.Lenny Breau as well. It is very hard to replace artists who had real voices especially in a genre that (IMHO) needs an infuse of new talent and fresh ideas.
I don't know how any of them would have faired these days but these were some musicians that could really play.
